Participant Waiver, Code of Conduct & Volunteer Role Description
Participant Waiver
I know and understand that participating in Agape Handyman Mission Inc. (AHM) activities and/or volunteering for or with Agape Handyman Mission Inc. are potentially dangerous activities and can result in injuries. I understand that I should not participate or volunteer unless I am physically or medically able, and that it is solely my responsibility to determine whether I am physically or medically able to participate in AHM activities or volunteering for or with AHM.
I assume all risks associated with participating in Agape Handyman Mission Inc. activities or volunteering for or with Agape Handyman Mission Inc., including, but not limited to, trip and falls, contact with vehicles or participants at events, the effects of the weather, conditions of the road and traffic, all such risks being known and appreciated by me.
Having read and understood this waiver I, for myself and anyone entitled to act on my behalf, waive and release Agape Handyman Mission Inc., its members, officers, representatives and successors from any and all claims or liabilities of any kind arising out of my participation in Agape Handyman Mission Inc. activities and/or volunteering for or with Agape Handyman Mission Inc.
AHM Code of Conduct
Our goal is to create a friendly, positive, inclusive, and safe space for volunteers and community members of all abilities, ages, genders, and backgrounds. Participation in AHM is based on mutual respect and shared responsibility for maintaining a welcoming and supportive atmosphere and is guided by this Code of Conduct. Acceptance of this code is required for all AHM members and volunteers.
Code of Conduct
Agape Handyman Mission Inc. (AHM) was founded to bring together local volunteers while promoting community service, practical skill development, and a compassionate lifestyle. We actively participate in community life by organising regular service activities, community projects, volunteer teams, and social events, as well as volunteering for vulnerable members of our community. We actively encourage others to either join our mission or continue to serve.
Our goal is to create a friendly, positive, inclusive, and safe space for volunteers and community members of all abilities, ages, genders, and backgrounds. Participation in AHM is based on mutual respect and shared responsibility for maintaining a welcoming and supportive atmosphere.
AHM is an integral part of the broader Sydney-area community and nonprofit sector. We support local councils, welfare organisations, and community groups in their activities, and we strive to uphold values of dignity, integrity, and compassionate service in all AHM activities.
Expectations of Members
We expect all members to:
• Be friendly and treat one another with respect, during AHM activities, in related social settings and in online communications.
• Respect differences in age, gender, background, experience, and personality.
• Respect personal boundaries. Physical contact (such as hugs, pats, or supportive gestures) should only take place if it is clearly welcome. Members should feel comfortable declining physical contact without explanation.
• Enjoy humour and friendly banter while remaining mindful of others. If a comment or topic makes someone uncomfortable, members should feel free to express their feeling, and this should be respected without argument or ridicule.
• Contribute to an inclusive environment. Our community includes members from a wide range of cultural, social, and personal backgrounds. We aim to be open and respectful toward different perspectives and communication styles, and to avoid assumptions about others based on appearance, gender, background, or lifestyle.
• Follow all safety guidance regarding worksites, weather, visibility, and group activity rules to ensure a positive and safe experience for everyone.
• Observe and obey all rules and regulations governing volunteer activities, training programs, and community events.
• Offer encouragement and support to fellow volunteers. If someone is struggling or unwell during an AHM activity, ensure they receive help and are not left on their own. At the same time, avoid giving unsolicited advice unless it is requested.
• Represent AHM in a positive manner, showing dignity, honesty, respect, and consideration toward fellow members and the general public.
• Use social media responsibly when representing AHM. Do not post personal information or photos of AHM members without their consent. Do not tag AHM in posts unrelated to our mission, or in any solicitation or marketing activities, unless approved by the AHM Board.
• Refrain from any form of harassment, including but not limited to unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favours, as well as verbal, emotional, or physical conduct of a sexual nature.
• Avoid bullying in any form. This includes, but is not limited to, the use of force, threats, intimidation, coercion, or aggressive behaviour toward others.
Raising Concerns
If a member feels uncomfortable or concerned about behaviour within AHM, they are encouraged to speak with an AHM board member. All concerns will be treated respectfully and confidentially. The goal is understanding, resolution, and the maintenance of a positive community environment—not blame or confrontation.
Closing Statement
This Code of Conduct is intended as a guide for positive behaviour and mutual respect, rather than as a rigid list of rules. We trust our members to act in good faith and to support one another in keeping Agape Handyman Mission Inc. a welcoming place for all. The code will be reviewed annually by the AHM leadership board.
Acceptance of this code is required for all AHM members.
